Pings, calls, texts, tweets and what have you hit my phone and as a matter of fact drained my phone battery few minutes after Nigeria’s victory over Ethiopia. As at the 70th minute of the game my friends on bbm and twitter were already cursing and dissing the team and even Keshi too, while some were laughing at the team’s inability to get an equalizer after conceding a goal in the 56th minute. Some peeps even said it wasn’t a goal but to me the goal Nigeria conceded was a clean goal, a goal that would be given everyday and three times on Sunday (did that make sense?).
Nigeria scored two late goals through Emmanuel Emenike. A beautiful shot from outside the box and a penalty. The calls, pings, texts et al from my friends was as a result of my post on England’s game against Montenegro on Friday. The boys were like I must also put a post up for the Super Eagles so here we are. I have not been a fan of the Eagles for a while now but I started supporting them again when Siasia was appointed and even after Keshi replaced him I still put in my support for the team. I respected both managers when they were footballers. Keshi is really doing a good job with the team and I am so happy he is going to qualify a second team for the World Cup. Remember he qualified Togo for the World Cup though he was sacked after a poor performance at the Nations cup just before the tournament in 2006.
The Ethiopia game came alive in the second half and Mikel Obi bossed the midfield just after my favourite Super Eagles player Nosa Igiebor was brought on. Godfrey Oboabana was pure class for the Eagles and Azubuike Egwuekwe who partnered him in the heart of the Nigerian defense was fantastic, winning every aerial duel. I am glad the Eagles have the advantage needed to progress to the World Cup finals in Brazil. So I will likely have all my favourite national teams at the World Cup come next year.
