I was looking forward to going to the beach on Saturday but one thing led to another and I didn’t leave the house. The day was looking bad at just 10am (I was bored stiff) and I couldn’t wait for the Man United game to kick off. The early kick off (Fulham versus Stoke) wasn’t what I was looking forward to, both teams could have decided not to turn for all I cared. I was lying down and thinking about what to do. I settled for my bb and scrolled through my contacts to find people I have not heard from in a while. It looked like they were upset with me, only two people responded with the harsh words “I am busy”. Yea they were girls, hahahahaha. At this point it was 11am, 4 hours to kick off time. I picked up my Microsoft surface and started watching episodes 11 to 16 of the second season of Suits (the best series airing at the moment). If you haven’t seen or you are not seeing Suits then you are on a long thing. I was about finishing episode 15 when the game started.
This was United’s 27th league game this season and they were away to bottom club Queen’s Park Rangers (QPR). Man Utd won the game 2-0 which was no surprise but the major talking point was Rafael’s beauty of a goal. It was a 35 yard screamer that would beat any goalkeeper. Fabio (Rafael’s twin) who is presently on loan at QPR was quoted saying “I wanted to celebrate Rafael’s goal but I was sitted next to the QPR president”. The goal gifted United a 1 nil lead into the half time. The crowning moment of the game was Messr Giggs’ goal in his 999th career game, yes I said 999 and yes it is 1 short of a thousand. This living legend has played 931 games for the Red Devils, 64 for his country of birth Wales and 4 for Great Britain (Olympic team) scoring 181 goals in total. He is the only player that has scored in each and every season of the premier league since its inception in 1992. Victory put United 15 points ahead of Man City who played Chelsea the next day. I was hoping Chelsea would at least force a draw from the noisy neighbours, but they didn’t even turn up for the game. City reduced the lead to 12 points.
Arsenal bounced back from embarrassing defeats to Blackburn and Bayern Munich respectively to beat Aston Villa 2-1 thanks to a Santi Carzola brace. Dimitar Berbatov’s solitary strike was enough to give Fulham the 3 points against a fumbling Stoke City side. Wigan beat Reading 3-0 at the Madjeski stadium (Reading’s home) to climb out of the relegation waters with goals from Aruna Kone (2) and Maynor Figueroa. Norwich left it late against Everton scoring 2 late goals to secure a 2-1 win against the Toffees. Newcastle beat Southampton 4-2 and if you didn’t see Papis Cisse’s goal for Newcastle endeavor to search for it.
Gareth Bale???????????? What would Spurs do without him? The lad is in a world of his own. 8 goals in 6 games. The wing wizard came to the party last night ensuring the Lily Whites left Westham’s Upton park with all 3 points. His late goal surely broke the hearts of Arsenal faithfuls giving Totenham a 4 point lead over the Gunners ahead of the North London derby on Sunday. Spurs’ victory also puts them ahead of Chelsea on the log. Totenham are now third with 51 points, Chelsea fourth with 49 and Assnal fifth with 47. The fight for Champions league footie is getting more interesting.
Gareth Bale is the obvious choice for player of the week though Rafael is not too far off. With the way Bale is playing I doubt if he would still be at Spurs by the Summer. A befitting destination? Manchester United of course. Watch out for the El-classico tonight. The second leg of the Copa Del Rey semi final sees Barcelona host arch rivals Real Madrid. My money is on Madrid as always though Barca have the advantage having scored an away goal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu (I so much love saying that).
