So 2 (Portugal and France) of the 3 teams I am rooting for at the Euros have been eliminated. England is the only team doing me proud. Portugal lost 1:0 to Belgium on Sunday night while France surprisingly lost out to Switzerland 5:4 on penalties after playing out a 3:3 draw in regulation cum extra time.
The French loss was so annoying no doubt but the game was quite interesting especially for the neutrals. I mean they were 3:1 up as at the 81st minute and they lost focus conceding two late goals to the Swiss side. On the flip side, Switzerland should have ended the game in regulation time. They had the chance to go 2:0 up from the penalty spot but Hugo Lloris in goal for France was able to make a superb save which gave France a bit of hope.
The only shred of hope I had left in the tournament and the team I loved the most; England was written off by most of the people that know me and the love I have for the team (I remember all of you o) because they were playing their perennial rivals Germany. To be honest I wasn’t sure but was never going to jump ship. Again if Arsenal fans remain solidly behind Arsenal abeg na England I dey support I no kill a person.
I am proud to say that England beat Germany 2:0 thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and Captain Harry Kane. I couldn’t contain my joy for this victory. I wouldn’t lie I had issues with coach Gareth Southgate’s set-up from the start of the tourney but this win today will make me cut him some slack. I have also forgiven him for his penalty miss against Germany at the 1996 edition of the Euros. Not that he will hear from me anyway.
I don’t even know if I am making sense with this post. As my guy Zoba asked, Dipo will you be writing from how you feel from your bones after the eba and okro you must have downed today, or will you take a piss at Toni Kroos and Robin Gosens for being horrible in the game? I choose the former, no time.
2 World Wars and 1 World Cup. England, England. 2 World Wars and 1 World Cup, England all the way.
