It’s funny how time flies as 2014 hits a climax. It would be an understatement to say Naija music is on high in terms of hits churned out on a regular. I have listened to too many singles this year but most importantly I have listened to albums this year, not as much as I did last year but I listened to albums especially the very hyped ones. Without mincing words I was disappointed at the quality of some albums released this year. I don’t expect every one to agree with my list as always but I will still air my views.
Remember I am not a specialist at doing reviews so don’t expect much talk on this post. Find below my top Naija albums of 2014.
4. Wazup Guy (Falz The Bahd Guy) – ordinarily this would have been my number 1 or 2 but I have decided to kick sentiments aside. This album reeks of entertainment and who doesn’t like to be entertained. Between this album and Journey I can’t say which I have listened to more. The first Falz song I heard was ‘Shakara’ back in 2010. You need to cop this CD and listen to it if you haven’t. A little expo for you if you haven’t bought the album yet, watch out for these songs ‘High Class’, ‘Marry Me’ featuring Poe and Yemi Alade, ‘Cool Parry’ featuring Saeon. These listed songs have cool videos. You might also enjoy ‘Wazup Guy’ (original and remix), ‘Jessica’, ‘O pari’ featuring Olamide, ‘Oh GOD’ and ‘Senator’ just to mention a few. Oh it looks like I have even listed the whole album (lol). 7/10.
3. No Guts No Glory (Phyno) – this dude might not be the man of the year literally but he’s high up there. He spits lines in Igbo and I feel like I understand what he says. My favorite Phyno track has to be the collabo with Olamide (Ghost Mode). Though it took a while for him to drop this album, hey it’s finally here. Hits like ‘Alobam’, ‘Man of the Year’, ‘Parcel’ and ‘Authe’ featuring Flavour can be found on the album. 7/10
2. Street OT (Olamide) – truth be told I was expecting more, but why should I really? The other artistes didn’t up their game one bit. Good album and he had released banging singles before dropping the album. I love ‘Awon Goons Mi’, ‘Story for the gods’ , ‘1999’, ‘100 to Million’, and wait for it ‘Hustle, Loyalty, Respect’ featuring Reminisce. FYI don’t ever feature Reminisce in your song, he’s gonna kill it. Much respect to Olamide, 4 years 4 albums. Nobody does it better. I rate the album 8/10.
1. Journey (Sean Tizzle) – this album has to be the best album in Nigeria by miles. Sean Tizzle didn’t disappoint one bit. Singles released prior to the album release clearly showed we were going to be thrilled. Sho Le which was his 1st single wasn’t put in the album (at least not in the copy I bought). Tight songs like ‘Perfect Gentleman’, ‘Kilogbe’, ‘Kilogbe remix’ (featuring Reminisce and Olamide), ‘Igi Orombo’ featuring Tiwa Savage, ‘Take It’ and my personal favorite featuring Adigun Alapomeji himself aka 9ice ‘Loke Loke’ can be found on the album. 9/10 rating for me.
Yes just 4 albums made the cut for me. I listened to other albums no doubt but these 4 listed here are my albums of the year. No disrespect to other artistes that dropped albums this year.
Watch out for my top 14 songs for the year next. That should be more interesting (lol).
Thanks again for your time people and do enjoy the rest of the week. Stay Blessed!!!
