The Dropped Ones: Super Eagles

UP NAIJA
UP NAIJA
Messr Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has finally picked his 23 man squad for the World Cup. I will not dwell on the chosen ones well except if I want to make any comparison. I saw the the friendly the Eagles played against Scotland last week and despite not playing as well as I expected they didn’t do badly either. For those of you that always think Nigeria will beat England I hope you are convinced that there’s no way in hell that will ever happen. That is gist for another day. I think Keshi should have started Victor Moses (left to me I wouldn’t have called him up) and Mikel Obi because they didn’t have much playing time during the tail end of the season, so in my opinion they were match rusty.
The following players; Daniel Akpeyi, Ejike Uzoenyi, Nnamdi Oduamadi, Joel Obi, Nosa Igiebor, Sunday Mba and Obinna Nsofor were dropped from the provisional 30 players called up by Keshi. Now The Big Boss knows best no doubt and I respect him for his decision to drop these guys, believe me it’s not easy. You can pick a pen and paper to write out your preferred 23 and still get criticized for your choices. Like I tell my friends the person who takes a spot kick with the mouth never loses it. So we that are not directly involved think we know better.
If you read my previous post on my preferred Super Eagles 23 to the World Cup you will realize I didn’t put Chigozie Agbim but he made it, anyway we all know he won’t be playing in Brazil he’s just there to make up the numbers. Now who is Babatunde Michael? I would rather have put Ejike Uzoenyi (best player at the Nations Cup for home based players). He doesn’t have experience? Is it through watching the World Cup on his TV screen that he will gain experience? How did Enyeama become the star he is today? Paul Scholes can sure refresh our memory about that, since it was this then inexperienced Enyeama that stopped his shot from going into the net when Nigeria met England at the group stage of the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup.
Another player that was dropped that didn’t go down well with me is Nosa Igiebor. Look at the crop of midfielders we have and tell me how many are creative. What more can I say? I can’t make a case for Nsofor and I apologies for that. As for Oduamadi he plays in Serie B so if Danny Shittu didn’t make the cut for 30 then Oduamadi shouldn’t be allowed at the mundial as a player. Joel Obi has been off the radar for a while so it’s no shock for me. Daniel Akpeyi’s name just rings a bell and though I have heard some good stuff about him but in relation to the players picked he isn’t good enough to make the cut. And finally Sunday Mba, the man who won the Nation’s cup for Nigeria was also axed from the squad. I am sure he would be like why did he bother to struggle to make it to the camp. Sunday Mba in my opinion should have just remained in the local league instead of going to Europe to join a Ligue 2 side in France. I am not surprised he was dropped to be honest.
There’s no need crying, milk already spilt. We can only pray for the Super Eagles to excel at the tourney. I agree with Jose Mourinho’s prediction of Nigeria making it to the second round of the World Cup. This is Nigeria’s 5th appearance at the World Cup, they have played 14 games in the previous tournaments winning 4, losing 8 and drawing 2 with Spain being the biggest scalp taken (1998).
All the best Nigeria, GOD bless Nigeria………..
Thanks for your time people. Much love !!!
