Burnley have been in their best Premier League form ever this season with 32 points from 19 games and they were 7th on the log, 2 points behind Arsenal before today’s league games. They just need 8 points more to be sure of avoiding relegation but Sean Dyche and his gang seem to be thinking of European football come end of the season. Time will tell.
So after horrible defending cost us 3 points against Leicester City on Saturday night, I was not expecting much against Burnley. If we were going to win I couldn’t boldly say but I was sure of Man Utd conceding a goal at the least. United boast of a better head to head against the Clarets with 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss in their last 6 meetings between 2009 and 2017.
You don’t allow Burnley score before you, well unless you are Man City. I was still looking for where I could watch the game but before I could find a link to the game we had conceded. As in less than 4 minutes we were a goal down no thanks to Ashley Barnes.
I mean this is Burnley, they have one of the most organized defenses in the Premier League. The Red Devils attacked non stop and there was hope of at least getting an equalizer. I thought wrong, Burnley scored a second through a well taken free kick in the 36th minute by Belgium born Defour. At this point I thought it was over, 3 points dropped to be precise. United piled up the pressure but Burnley weren’t budging. Half Time scores Man U 0 Burnley 2.
The second half started with Man U bringing on Henrik Mhkitarian and Jesse Lingard for Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Yes you read that right, Lingard didn’t start. The Red Devils eventually got a goal and you need not guess much as to who scored the goal. Jesse Lingard’s 53rd minute strike gave the frustrated United team a glimmer of hope. The game wore on with United dominating possession but making nothing out of it. 5 minutes extra time added and I was about to give up at this point. I was just going to switch to the conversation the lads in the Naija Pundits group (A very interesting whatsapp group I am a member of) were having when my boy Lingard stepped up again with the goods levelling the scoreline in the first minute of extra time. Game ended 2-2.
Man City beat Newcastle 1 nil the following night to increase their lead on the log to 15points. I told my friends we lost the hope of winning the EPL the day Manchester City beat us at Old Trafford.
Thanks for your time guys, you will see it took a while to post this. I have not been too happy with performance of the Manchester United lads. They should hold on to 2nd place though because Chelsea is just a point behind. Thanks to Lingard my Fantasy League points wasn’t a total mess.
Cheers Guys !!!
