I was so glad the French team stepped up their game on this day they faced Argentina. It was a game I sincerely prayed, for the exit of Lionel Messi because something kept pricking me that Portugal would lose to Uruguay. Let me confess again for the umpteenth time, I am a Cristiano Ronaldo man but I respect Lionel Messi. You see I cannot support Brazil and wish Argentina well or be a Manchester United fan and pray Manchester City wins the Champions league, so lets drop that matter.
I was really impressed with how Le Bleus eliminated Argentina today but it was Kylian Mbappe, the French youngster who stole my heart. Dude can play, was it the run from his half that led to the penalty which Antoine Griezmann scored for France to go ahead in the 13th minute or the calmness he showed in putting France ahead after Benjamin Pavard had cut back Argentina’s lead in the second half. Mbappe’s second goal on the day was one that showed a player who is truly world class though French fullback, Benjamin Pavard’s goal was goal of the day by a long mile.
I will also single out 2 other players in France’s 4-3 win over Argentina and they are Blaise Matuidi who stopped Messi from having any sort of joy on the pitch and Antoine Griezmann who despite being an attacking player kept tracking back whenever it seemed the French back line was in trouble. When France took the lead in the 13th minute, it seemed like it was going to be one-way traffic from there but Argentina equalized before half time before taking the lead 3 minutes into the second half. France equalized and scored 2 more goals to have a 4-2 lead before substitute Sergio Kun Aguero scored in the 3rd minute of extra time to end the game at 4-3 in France’s favour.
This was clearly a GAME and a half.
I don’t think Argentina’s coach Jorge Sampaoli will make it to Argentina before he gets the boot, I mean how does he explain not taking Mauro Icardi who scored 29 Serie A goals in the past season to the World Cup whilst benching Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala.
In the other game of the day, Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez led Uruguay to a 2-1 win over Portugal.
Thanks for your time guys…………… Bless !!!
