I love football a lot. I was bashed before the tournament started, I was the butt of jokes after England drew with Russia in their first group game but after today’s game I didn’t even get hey Dipo congrats on your team’s victory. This life is a pot of hot beans sha. If una no hail me I go hail myself, my team beat Wales and I am so happy.
Roy (Woy) Hodgson started with the same formation and same starting line up as he did in the first game against Russia on Saturday. At the least he shouldn’t have started Raheem Sterling this time out, I would have loved to see Jamie Vardy pair Harry Kane upfront with Wayne Rooney playing behind them but hey he’s the Coach I am just a fan. So 4-3-3 it was and as the game wore on it was looking like the first game against Russia where England dominated but did not have anything to show. At some point I though I thought I was watching Barcelona (hate to admit) but what’s my business with beautiful play and no goal? Take a look at the Italian team, nothing like beautiful football just purposeful footy.
The Welsh side however broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute through a Gareth Bale freekick.
It was so painful and what made it hurt was the fact that it was Gareth Bale who had been taking a piss at England all week that got the goal. He first went on to say the Welsh players were more passionate then that none of the English players will make it into the Wales squad, BOOSIT *in Falz The Bahd Guy’s voice*. The first half ended 1-0 and it was looking like Wales would nick the tie.
The second half started just as the first with England dominating play and the pressure eventually paid off in the 58th minute thanks to the introduction of Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge for Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling at the start of the interval. Vardy however was the one that brought the game level and my joy knew no bounds.
The game was balanced and the Welsh team tried to knock the game back in their favour but the English defence and Joe Hart were having none of it.
Cometh the hour, Cometh the man, a man I hate to love Daniel Sturridge stepped up to bury game in England’s favour in the 2 minute of extra time to send the 3 Lions to the top of group B. 2-1 the game ended thanks to the super subs Vardy and Sturridge.
4 points from 2 games and the Three Lions look set for the next round of the tournament because the worst that can happen is they will qualify as the best 3rd placed side.
What Did The Coach Do Wrong?
Like I have been saying a 4-4-2 formation would have been a more explosive adoption with Kane and Vardy leading the line up front and Captain Rooney charging right behind them. Sterling would have been good as a sub when a result looks sure. So I think Woy’s formation is the bane of England’s lack of fire power.
Preferred Starting Line Up Against Slovakia
1. Joe Hart
2. Kyle Walker
3. Danny Rose
4. Eric Dier
5. Chris Smalling
6. John Stones
7. Adam Lallana
8. Jamie Vardy
9. Harry Kane
10. Wayne Rooney
11. Dele Alli
A 4-4-2 formation with Dele Alli and Eric Dier shielding the midfield is what I would like to see but even if a 4-3-3 formation is to adopted Vardy, Kane and Sturridge can play upfront with Rooney, Dier and James Milner in the midfield and I would really love to see John Stones start in defence alongside Chris Smalling.
Prediction For The Game
With Slovakia’s talisman Marek Hamsik seemingly coming alive against Russia I would not totally write off the Slovaks not that he’s the only one in the team but he sure can be a handful. I tip England for victory as always and avoiding France in the next round is key for England so they have to top the group. I predict England to nick this one 2-1 come Monday night. 2-1 seems to be my favourite scoreline, lol. I hope Rooney gets a goal or even both.
Thanks for your time as always guys and do have a lovely weekend ahead.
