Olamide is here like forever

Olamide? Yes I am talking about the rapper. This dude blew me away with his eni duro song. I heard the song when I was in Aberdeen in 2010. Eni duro was a success by my own rating and weeks later I heard my bro sing omo toh shan to his wife and I was like who sang the song. He said one guy called Olamide and that he featured Wizkid. Omo toh shan confirmed to me Olamide was no one hit wonder and I was anticipating the release of his album.

The album was finally released and it was titled rapsodi, pronounced rap si odi (rap other way round I think) though I used to pronounce it as Rhapsody. I got hold of the album thanks to my darling Bizzlelicious who sent it to me through my cousin. Before I got the album I had pinged and called friends to ask if the album was good. Most of them were like it was okay, a couple were already comparing him to Da Grin. I didn’t let these comments rob me of the chance to have my own opinion.

I listened to the album early one Saturday morning at about 3am (yea the clubs in Aberdeen are always shut at about 2am). I didn’t really feel the album, but who enjoys an album after hearing it a first time? Certainly not me. Jay Z has been my best rapper since 2005 and I never enjoy his albums hearing it the first time. Olamide’s rapsodi album made sense after I listened to severally. I had to put the whole album in my phone. I would rate the album 7/10 for a new comer.

My favourite tracks on the album are (still listen to it) fori fori, eni duro, kelegbe featuring Lord of Ajasa, Woman featuring Jumoke, Jara featuring AB1, Apa ti jabo featuring ID Cabasa and omo toh shan featuring Wizkid. I guess I have listed almost all the tracks on the album. I am sure Da Grin would be proud wherever he is, not that I am making any comparism.

Olamide followed up with a single titled Ilefo Illuminati asides other collaborations and dropped his sophomore album last year (2012). The album is titled YBNL (Yahoo Boy No Laptop) and it has smash hits like VOTS (Voice Of The Street), Stupid Love, Owotabua, Panumo and the ever popular first of all to mention a few. If you haven’t heard it, grab a copy now.

His collaboration with Phyno (Ghostmode) was however my best rap collaboration of 2012. I predicted a great 2013 for Olamide and he sure started the year well dropping songs week in week out and doing truck loads of collaborations including the eagerly anticipated ibadi e (let it bounce) with Dbanj, Kay Switch and Durella. Trust me he killed that song too. His latest effort Durosoke is one song I listen to everyday. Its a tight joint. I remember the 1st time I listened to Durosoke, I laughed and not that it was a silly song but the way he put the lyrics together was funny and made sense too. I remember giving my phone to my cousin Damz to listen to it and he instantly fell in love with the track and yes he laughed too.

I think Olamide is going to be around for a long time giving us hit after hit and I truly hope Dbanj signs him. Yes my two favourite Naija artistes on the same label. That’s GOLDEN. To those that were saying Olamide should change his lyrics in the Ghostmode song where he said “other rappers be like Naija dem no dey reach final” please listen well and you will see he didn’t go out of line. He started by saying “I am balling like its World cup and I am going to shine, other rappers be like Naija dem no dey reach final”. At least Naija still never reach World cup final, hahahaha.
