Juventus are Kings for the 8th Consecutive Time as PSG retain Ligue 1 Crown

Spal delayed the Old Lady’s party by a week beating them 2:1 in the preceding round of Serie A matches played. Juventus however were not going to lose 3 games in a row after losing out to Ajax for a place in the Champions League semi final on Tuesday night. They beat Fiorentina 2:1 on Saturday to win their 8th consecutive Scudetto. Though 6 points behind Napoli, Inter seem to be in contention of coming in in 2nd position despite the 1:1 draw with Roma at the San Siro. Inter’s draw with Roma has made the battle for top 4 in the Serie A open and interesting with AC Milan, Roma, Torino and Atalanta also in contention. Other results in the Serie are :

Genoa 0 Torino 1

Empoli 2 Spal 4

Lazio 1 Chievo 2

Parma 1 AC Milan 1

Bologna 3 Sampdoria 0

Udinese 1 Sassuolo 1

Cagliari 1 Frosinone 0

Napoli play Atalanta on Monday night.

Juventus’ win makes Cristiano Ronaldo the only player to have won the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga and the Italian Serie A #Legend.

The Juventus female team also clinched the league title on the same day their male counterparts did beating Verona 3 nil with goals from Petronella Ekroth, Cristiana Girelli and Eniola Aluko. They won the title with a point ahead of Fiorentina.

The battle for English Premier League (EPL) title has been a 2 way race since the turn of the year and it still remains so as Liverpool and Manchester City keep replacing themselves at the summit. As it is at the moment Liverpool have the easiest of games on paper while Manchester City still have to play Manchester United after beating Tottenham 1:0 in the final chapter of their Trilogy but the City have a game in hand. In the other games of the EPL relegated Fulham beat Bournemouth 1:0 away from home, Watford nicked a 2:1 win at Huddersfield, the West Ham versus Leicester City game ended in a 2:2 draw and Wolverhampton Wanderers against Brighton ended in a goalless stalemate. In the last game played on Saturday, Newcastle have sealed another season in the top flight with a 3:1 win over Southampton.

Manchester United was about forgetting making it into the top 4 after the 4:0 annihilation in the hands of Everton at Goodison Park but it seems some sort of redemption has been brought to the fore with Arsenal’s 3:2 loss to Crystal Palace at their Emirates Stadium. So the points difference between Tottenham in 3rd place and Manchester United in 6th position is just 3 points. Liverpool beat Cardiff 2:0 to go back to the top. Chelsea play Burnley on Monday night.

It is generally believed that the Manchester Derby between Manchester United and Manchester City which takes on Wednesday night will determine where the title is headed to. If you asked me, United can beat City and City would still win the league.

Barcelona are 7 points away from winning their 26th La Liga title after beating Real Sociedad 2:1 on Saturday night. It was the Karim Benzema show in Real Madrid’s 3:0 win over Athletic Bilbao. The Frenchman scored all 3 goals for Real.

In other La Liga games, Levante played out a 2 all draw with Espanyol, Getafe beat fellow top 4 contenders Sevilla 3:0, Villareal beat Leganes 2:1, Valencia nicked a 2:1 away win at Betis. Celta Vigo beat Girona 2:1, Atletico Madrid are on the verge of sealing second place with a 1:0 away win over Eibar. It was goalless between Rayo Vallecano and Huesca and Alaves were held to a 2 all draw by Real Valladolid.

The race for the German Bundesliga is pretty close something similar to Starsky and Hutch. Bayern Munich lead Dortmund by a single point and they both beat Werder Bremen and Freiburg 1:0 and 4:0 respectively. Hertha Berlin and Hannover ended their tie in a stalemate (0:0). Augsburg pummeled Stuttgart 6:0, Bayer Leverkusen were 2:0 winners over Nurnberg, Mainz beat Düsseldorf 3:1, Borussia Monchengladbach lost 2:1 at home to RB Leipzig and Schalke 04 were thrashed 5:2 by Hoffenheim.

In France, PSG beat Monaco 3:1 thanks to a Kylian Mbappe hattrick to win the French Ligue 1.  Nantes were 3:2 victors over Amiens, Toulouse and Lille ended their contest goalless, St. Etienne beat Reims 2:0, Guingamp lost 3:1 to Marseille, Caen won Nice 1:0, Nimes were 2:1 better than Bordeaux, Strasbourg lost 3:1 to Montpellier. It was Dijon 3 and Rennes 2 and Lyon snapped out of their 3 game losing streak to beat Angers 2:1.
