It is no longer news that I am a Cristiano Ronaldo fan and when Juventus were eliminated last night in the 2nd round of this season’s UEFA Champions League by FC Porto it was painful. Juventus were eliminated via the away goals rule after playing out a 1 all draw in the first leg in Portugal.
Juventus won the second leg tie 3:2 (4:4 aggregate) but it was not enough to see them through to the next round. It pained me but I slept with a smile on my face.
Why did I sleep with a smile? Well I knew Lionel Messi would be joining Ronaldo in watching the remainder of the competition on Television. There was no way Barcelona were coming back from losing 4:1 at home to Paris Saint-Germain (P.S.G) in the first leg to win the 2nd leg at the Parc des Princes let alone going through to the quarter finals of the tourney.
The second leg ended 1:1 and some people’s GOAT missed a penalty. PSG went through with a 5:2 aggregate win.
So I can sleep easy tonight knowing there wouldn’t be a Ronaldo/Messi banter. Our GOATs are out and have only domestic football to focus on.
