The best footballer to have graced the sport scored his One Hundred and Eleventh (111) goal for his country tonight. The goal record for an individual for a National Team stood at 109 goals for a long time. Iran’s Ali Daei held the record for many years before Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo equalled it before tonight. Then tonight Portugal hosted Ireland in a World Cup qualifier where Ronaldo was gifted with a gold plaque before kick-off for his feat.
Ronaldo missed the opportunity of breaking Daei’s record losing a penalty in the first half of the game. Before half time John Egan gave the Irish team a 1:0 lead. Cometh the man, cometh the hour, Ronaldo pulled a goal back to level scores for Portugal and also break the goal record. This happened in the 89th minute of the tie and just when we thought he was done, the Manchester United returnee struck again in extra time to win the game 2:1 for Portugal bagging his 111th International goal in the process.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the best footballer ever. I said what I said and I will say it any day all day and 100 times on Sundays.
Yes, I had to wait for this game to be played before writing today’s post because I had the feeling he would break the record. The 36-year-old looks like he would be blowing the record to Smithereens as doesn’t look like he’s going to slow down anytime soon.
CHEERS!!!
