Day 171 of 365: Olamide

I have been a big fan since his debut album; Rapsodi dropped in 2011. My brother was a big fan of his single with Wizkid (Omo toh Shan) so he brought his sound to my consciousness and it didnt take long before I became a fan. To be honest I saw him as a Da Grin (R.I.P) wannabe and didn’t expect him to be a force in the music game for long. He proved me wrong as soon as he dropped his sophomore album titled YBNL which also happens to be my favourite of all his discographies.

Not only has Olamide shown longevity in the music game, but he has also dropped a body of work every year since 2011 (well except for 2019) and they were all solid. He’s done collaborative LPs or EPs also. He has been part of 13 albums in all and they have all been great. I don’t know what G.O.A.T (Greatest of All-Time) status is if he isn’t regarded as the G.O.A.T in the Nigerian hip-hop sphere.

His body of work include; Rapsodi (2011), YBNL (2012), Baddest Guy Ever Liveth (2013), Street OT (2014), Eyan Mayweather and 2 Kings with Phyno (2015), The Glory (2016), Lagos Nawa (2017), YBNL Mafia Family with members of his YBNL Label (2018), 999 (2020), Carpe Diem (2020) and UY Scuti which was recently released. UY Scuti is an amazing body of work and I didn’t know when I listened to it back to back to back on Friday. And we all know the hit single Rock is going to hang in there for a long time.

Like I said earlier YBNL (2012) has been my favourite so far with Panumo featuring Davido my best track off the album.

Olamide is the G.O.A.T.

End of STORY!!!
