There’s a huge possibility that all of us are superstitious on one thing or the other. Most of mine come from football. Up until my 300 level in Uni, I never wore a Manchester United Jersey on game days. Yes I am a Man U fan. I just thought we’d lose the match whenever I wore a United kit and this is because they lost on 2 occasions I can vividly remember wearing a Red Devils’ jersey.
There was a 4:1 loss to City rivals Manchester City in 2004 and there was a 2:1 loss to West Ham United on the 29th of December, 2007 which happened to be my birthday.
I am however one who wears a new Man Utd kit every December 29th whether United play or not and luckily for me since the loss in 2007 Manchester United have not lost on my birthday. That’s 13 years on.
Now another superstition I battle with is stats. The moment stats are dug up on the day my beloved Manchester United plays, it sends shivers down my spine. Manchester United have been a let-down since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013, yes a few trophies have been won after Fergie left but they have been a shadow of the great side the world knew.
The day’s stat was that United lost their last game to today’s opponents Burnley at Old Trafford 2:0. Burnley are a tough nut to crack and sincerely was praying for at least a draw in this one.
Tonight Manchester United played Burnley at Burnley’s home ground of Turf Moor and the 1:0 win for United courtesy of a Paul Pogba goal sent them to the top of the league ahead of perennial rivals Liverpool.
Guess who the lads face next? You guessed right if you said Liverpool. A tough one and they both face off again a week later in the Emirates FA Cup.
Good way to end the day, see you tomorrow.
