Since I delved into the world of football I had never thought Brazil would be in a situation this tight. Now, it is not that they aren’t good enough because on paper they seem to have one of the most talented squads at the Russia 2018 World Cup tourney but they have not played like a team to be respected.
I am not saying they have never lost a game before but the the Brazil I know will still play well in any given situation and I had not seen a glimpse of that Brazil in this tournament before last night’s game.
The game against Serbia was a tricky tie for Brazil. They had not been as ruthless as they were expected to be like I insinuated earlier, especially when the draw against Switzerland and the 2 nil win in extra time against Costa Rica in their previous Group E games are brought to the fore. The task was simple, get at least a draw against Serbia and progress to the knock out round but topping the group was paramount.
There was however no argument about Brazil’s dominance in this game. The Samba Boys dominated Serbia in this fixture from the blast of the whistle to the very end scoring a goal in each half to win the tie 2-0 (Paulinho and Thiago Silva got the goals).
The win for Brazil sets up a 2nd round match up with Mexico as we draw closer to supposed intense games of the World Cup. And my boy Neymar seem to be coming to the party gradually.
The Samba Boys need to step up their game in the coming days. Switzerland join Brazil in the second round after playing out a 2-2 draw with Costa Rica.
Thanks for your time guys. I await the England versus Belgium game which I am expecting to end in a draw though the little boy in me believes England can grab all 3 points. Both sides have qualified, we are just waiting to see who tops the group.
