Before today’s game there had been 230 meetings between Arsenal and Manchester United in all competitions (199 in the league) and there’s no prize for guessing who the bragging rights dwelled with. For those who don’t know United have won 97 of these games while Arsenal boast of 82 victories and both sides drawing 51 times.
The battle for top 4 keeps getting interesting and Tottenham have been dragged into the fight after losing to Southampton on Saturday. Tottenham’s loss means they can still end the season outside of the top 4. Chelsea were held to a 1:1 draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers. Chelsea remain 6th on the log but 4 points behind 3rd placed Tottenham and still have a game in hand. A win for United puts them level on points with Totthenham but will remain 4th because of goals difference and victory for Arsenal meant the Red Devils would move into 5th place pushing their erstwhile rivals up to 4th.
The reverse fixture of this Arsenal versus Man Utd game ended 2:2 at Old Trafford in December, 2018 but the Red Devils eliminated Arsenal in an FA Cup tie in January with the game ending 3:1. The Gunners would definitely be looking to get one over United. The game kicked off with Arsenal dominating but the best chance of the first 10 minutes fell to United with Romelu Lukaku hitting the bar. 2 minutes later Arsenal took the lead through Granit Xhaka. David De Gea in goal for the Red Devils misjudged the Swiss international’s shot. 1 nil to Arsenal.

United hit the bar again in the 18th minute when Fred shot from the edge of the box. Both sides were unable to take the chances created afterwards as the half ended 1:0 in Arsenal’s favour.
Manchester United dominated possession in the early minutes of the second half but none of the chances they created transitioned into goals, then gradually Arsenal got back into the game keeping the United defence on their toes. In 67th minute Fred clumsily fouled Alexandre Lacazette in the box to gift Arsenal a penalty. I wouldn’t have given the penalty but hey United were gifted an undeserved spot kick against P.S.G on Wednesday (as enemies would say). Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stepped up and scored, 2:0 to Arsenal. In my mind I knew the United lads weren’t coming back from this. Anthony Martial replaced Diogo Dalot immediately after the penalty was scored.

The game wore on and didn’t produce anymore goals. Arsenal won 2:0 to end Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s run of consecutive away wins which was snapped at 9 games. Arsenal leap into 4th with 2 points ahead of Manchester United. Liverpool beat Burnley 4:2 to be within touching distance of Manchester City who lead them with a point.
