Losing to a West Brom side that is languishing at the bottom of the Premier League was a bitter pill to swallow. Manchester United had no business playing out a draw against the Baggies let alone losing the game. Anything short of victory against Bournemouth was not going to be acceptable but on the flip side this is looking like my darling Manchester United’s best points tally since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down as manager. Anyway anything short of 3 points is a no no.
Jose Mourinho made 7 changes to the side that lost to West Brom on Sunday, maybe he was resting some of the lads for the FA Cup clash against Spurs on Saturday. The team had David De Gea in goal, Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Luke Shaw in defence with Ander Herrera, Maroune Fellaini and Paul Pogba making up a midfield trio while Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard led the attack. If you asked me the bulk of these lads have question marks surrounding their careers at United come next season. There was something just strange about the line up, but I liked that Martial and Rashy started.
It was end to end football from both sides though it was looking like it would end in a drab draw in my eyes until Lingard teed up Smalling to score for United in the 28th minute.
The Red Devils took a 1 nil lead into half-time. The second half was no different from the first except for United’s goal advantage. There were shouts for penalty in favour of Bournemouth but hey Man Utd had a penalty claim too on Sunday that was dismissed. Manchester United needed a 2nd goal to kill the off and a second goal they got through substitute Romelu Lukaku who received a sweet pass from Paul Pogba before shooting at Asmir Begovic’s goal.
2-0 and that was all United needed to extend their lead over Liverpool back to 4 points.
Ander Herrera put in a good shift and was my man of the match. Up next is an FA Cup tie at the Wembley Stadium against Tottenham Hotspur.
Thanks for your time guys.
